Our commitment to privacy

Path Intelligence is committed to protecting the privacy of personal and business information.

Our FootPath system detects transmissions from mobile phones and locates those mobile phones in 3D space. At no time do we intercept any personal information and that includes mobile phone numbers. At all times shoppers remain anonymous to us.

Path Intelligence does not collect or store information about customers that allows for the identification of individuals.

Below we detail our privacy policy. Should you have any queries or questions on our approach to privacy please contact us on info@pathintelligence.com.

Path Intelligence Privacy Policy - September 2006

Path Intelligence Limited ("we", "us" and "our") are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This policy sets out the basis on which our FootPath™ technology operates and describes some of the organisational and technological steps we have taken to ensure your privacy.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Our FootPath™ technology allows us to monitor the path you take as you travel through premises belonging to any of our clients.

FootPath™ works by detecting a randomly generated, frequently changing signal from your mobile phone. This random signal is detected by a number of our units within the premises. We combine the information detected from the mobile phone signal with a proprietary mathematical algorithm developed by us. This allows us to determine your path through premises equipped with our receiver units.

Importantly, our detector units do not allow us to obtain your telephone number, to listen to any of your calls, read any SMS messages read or sent by you, or to log details of any calls or SMS messages made or received by you. Neither does any of the information received allow us to identify you or any group of individuals.

HOW WE USE PATH INFORMATION

The anonymous information generated by the FootPath™ system is securely transmitted from the premises to our office. The information is then aggregated and analysed, and a final set of results is provided to our client. The resulting information is used for a variety of purposes, including the following:

  • Greater choice - Our client can improve the mix of retail units to make their premises more attractive to you. For example, our analysis may reveal that the shopping centre would benefit from the inclusion of a bookstore.
  • Better service - the informationhelps our clients decide when and where to deploy greater numbers of staff to meet your needs. For example, we can predict the times at which food halls will become busy, and identify the need for more cleaning staff.
  • Improved design - By obtaining a better understanding of how people flow in shopping centres (and other such areas) we can help our clients avoid bottlenecks and improve the safety and layout of your local shopping centre.
  • Marketing - the use of aggregated, anonymous information can help our clients reach the kind of audience they want to target with marketing and advertising (for example targetting a particular advertising campaign to part of a shopping centre that is on a well used route).

Further examples of the benefits of FootPath™ are set out in our website (www.pathintelligence.com) Please also feel welcome to view our online demonstration (www.pathintelligence.com/website-demo.htm).

HOW WE ENSURE THAT YOU CANNOT BE IDENTIFIED BY FOOTPATH™

In developing FootPath™ we have ensured that you cannot, at any time, be personally identified as a result of your travel through premises in which FootPath™ operates.

FootPath™ detects only a regularly changing, random number which contains no personal information. As we do not access this information in real time, or divulge this information to any third parties, it is not practicably possible for you to be indentified by the operation of FootPath™.

We have consulted with various privacy groups and the Office of the Information Commissioner to ensure that our operating procedures protect your privacy. Inparticular we ensure that your privacy is protected by the following means:

  • Security - our detector units are secure and are accessible only by our highly trained personnel. Staff at shopping centres do not have access to our detector units. This ensures that information detected by our units cannot be combined with other information from other systems that may allow you to be identified (for example, a CCTV camera in a shopping centre).
  • Aggregation - Aggregated data is collected from our detector units and sent off to our offices the evening following the day in which the data was collected. Accordingly, it is not possible to match your individual movements with the aggregated data collected by the detector units. By way of example, we may inform a client that 500 people that visited John Lewis also went on to visit Marks and Spencer on a particular day.
  • Anonymised data - The analysis of the path information obtained by FootPath™ is provided to each client in anonymised, aggregated form only. It is therefore impossible for a client to identify you by linking the contents of our analysis with, for example, images from their CCTV system.
  • Commitment to privacy - as a voluntary 'fail-safe' mechanism, we have also agreed, as a company, not to access any information that would allow us, or a third party to link any path information with any other data or information that would allow you to be identified.
